Philip the Evangelist

Philip the Evangelists: The Charm of Home

God has this fantastic ability to put the right people together at the right time for His glory; it has been His plan all along.

26 As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.”

The Holy Spirit gives you the right words to say.

for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said."
Luke 12:12
30 Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him.
32 The passage of Scripture he had been reading was this:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter.
And as a lamb is silent before the shearers,
he did not open his mouth.
33 He was humiliated and received no justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”
34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” 35 So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.

The Ethiopian was ready for the word of God, he was seeking it by reading from Isaiah.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33
36 As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” 38 He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 8:26-39

Philip was the Ethiopian's teacher, at the right place at the right time due to God's wonderful timing.

11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-12

Philip had the gift of teaching being sent by God (Acts 8:26) to spread the "good news" of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection and what it meant for the early Christians. It always comes down to one verse for me:
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Romans 8:2

And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Romans 10:15

This story about Phillip and the Ethiopian. It has always encouraged me to trust that inner voice and be bold and brave enough to share what He leads us to share when He leads us to do it. To love boldly enough to speak His Truth wherever we are, even if it means to do it with words. :)

Thanks for sharing this with the #GraceMoments Community!
Blessings,
